Always dreamed of having your own private gym?
A garden room can make a fantastic space for all kinds of exercise, from yoga and pilates to running machines. It can also be used for all kinds of other purposes when not in use. Many of our clients like to have a garden room that serves several applications.
Our previous projects have included a customised building from our Sanctuary Range, which served as both a gym and storage area. Fully insulated, internally boarded and plastered, it remains cool in the summer and warm in the winter. It can therefore be used all year round whether as a home office, music or art studio.

Work out in a beautiful private space.
It’s no secret that exercise is key for our happiness and wellbeing. Many of us are keen to improve our physical and mental health in 2025. However, bigger gyms offer many drawbacks, including the fact they are noisy and stressful.
Having your own gym at home means you can work out whenever you want, in your own private sanctuary, surrounded by beautiful natural surroundings. When it’s not being used for working out, it can also serve a range of other applications.
What are the benefits of using a garden room as a gym?
If you’re tired of driving to and from the gym, our garden room is the ultimate convenience. It will make sticking to your fitness routine much easier. There’s no excuses when the gym is just outside your door! You can also exercise whenever you feel like it, whether in the morning or late at night.
Tailor your garden room to reflect your needs.
Crusoe Garden Rooms can help you create a place where you can exercise in peace. We can help you choose the ideal type of flooring and lighting, along with features for temperature control. This can help you feel more motivated and help you achieve fitness goals.
Save money on expensive gym memberships.
Although you will have to pay for the garden room, in the long-term, it’s likely to pay off. Gym fees are notoriously expensive, and the cost of commuting adds up over time.
A beautiful garden room can also add to the value of your property. People love having a dedicated fitness space and flexible living and working spaces are more sought-after than ever.
What features should a garden room have to be a gym?
Firstly, it must have enough space for your equipment and the types of exercises you do. Our smaller garden rooms are enough for weight lifting and yoga mats. However, if you use equipment like treadmills or rowing machines, you’ll need more space.
It’s essential to consider the height of the room too, especially for exercises that involve jumping or lifting weights overhead.
Flooring must be durable and practical.
Rubber flooring is a popular choice since it’s slip-resistant, shock-absorbent, and can protect the ground from heavy equipment like dumbbells. It also helps to reduce levels of noise. In other words, it’s helpful if your garden room is close to neighbours or other parts of your home.
Proper ventilation is important.
Proper ventilation is essential to prevent your space from becoming stuffy during workouts. You might want large windows or sliding doors which can open up your space.
Furthermore, the garden room should be well insulated to ensure it’s comfortable to use year-round, regardless of the weather. Insulation will help maintain a consistent temperature, whether in the depths of winter or the heat of summer.

Garden rooms with plenty of natural light.
Natural light can make your space feel more inviting and energising.
Our garden rooms can include large windows or bi-fold doors, which let in plenty of daylight. We can also install bright, energy-efficient LED lighting, so your home gym is usable at any time.
The right lighting can set the mood for different workout styles, from high-energy cardio to tranquil yoga sessions.
Don’t forget about storage!
To keep the gym safe, it needs to be clutter-free. You therefore want to ensure there is ample storage for equipment.
Shelving, hooks, and cabinets can help store weights, resistance bands, yoga mats, and other accessories in an organised way. This not only makes the gym more practical but also helps keep the space tidy- all of which make us feel more motivated.
Our custom garden room can include power outlets.
If you plan to include cardio machines, such as treadmills or cross-trainers, you’ll need access to power. This is something our team can do at Crusoe Garden Rooms.
For instance, our Crusoe Sanctuary includes 4 double sockets, 10 chrome sunken downlights, 4 external downlights, and a dedicated consumer unit.
It’s a good idea to install outlets in strategic locations to avoid trailing cables, which could be a tripping hazard. We can add additional outlets if you want to add a sound system, fans or a television to your space.
